Bail set for Columbus man accused of murder

On August 14, an argument over a traffic accident ended in death. The man accused of murder was brought to court on Thursday.

Skyler Burley, 30, is charged with murder after shooting 17-year-old Gage Anderson during a UDF on Clime Road on Tuesday.

According to the prosecutor, “a witness stated that his son was the victim and that the defendant got out of a black Kia and shot his son.”

The victim was unresponsive when police arrived and was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m. Mr. Burley fled the scene but was arrested a short time later at a nearby intersection.

Burley said there was an argument over a traffic accident and the victim “lunged,” and Burley responded by shooting the victim.

The defence stated that Mr Burley had no previous convictions other than traffic offences and claimed it was self-defence.

The judge ordered Mr. Burley to stay away from the victim's family and all witnesses, to refrain from possessing firearms and from consuming alcohol or drugs.

A cash bond of $1.5 million was issued.
