A fight between girls, in which a baseball bat was used as a weapon, ended with shots being fired at a car in which some of the fighters were.

Di'Corius Edwards, 22, of Watkins Street, was charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Nineteen-year-old Kayla Bridges was charged with aggravated assault and vandalism. Two juveniles were charged with assault in juvenile court.

In the incident on Friday at Dollar General on Wilcox Boulevard, police said they were called to a fight between women in the store.

The caller said they were wrestling, hitting each other and using the bat.

The caller said that as the fight was ending, a white Kia sedan pulled into the parking lot. The passenger stuck his arm out the window and fired shots at the vehicle of four women involved in the fight.

According to police reports, video footage shows Ms. Bridges and another woman entering the store at about the same time and beginning a heated conversation. Ms. Bridges punches the other woman in the mouth.

Other women joined in the fight, then someone handed a baseball bat to Ms. Bridges, who waved it around, hitting two of the women.

The video shows Ms. Bridges outside the store at one point, but she went back inside with the bat and began to fight violently. Several of the women fought over the bat and fell to the ground.

Back outside, Mrs. Bridges, bat in hand, ran after two of the women she had been fighting with.

According to police, they were told that Ms Bridges then smashed the windshield of the opposing group's vehicle as they tried to get into the car.

Police said at that point the Kia pulled up and shots were fired at the vehicle with the smashed windshield. No one was hit, but the car had bullet holes in it.

Ms Bridges said she struck first because she was scared because she was alone and there were “more of them”.

While police were on scene, a blue Infiniti SUV drove into the store's parking lot. It was the one that had been shot at.

One of the women in the car said it was Edwards who shot her. The women identified him during a lineup.
