Frank Sinatra’s classics appear as “Ultimate Christmas”

The collection, which is designed to bring the holiday season forward this year, will be released on August 20 and includes hits such as “White Christmas,” “Jingle Bells” and more.

Christmas would simply not be Christmas without Frank Sinatra. The words “Sinatra” and “Christmas” are inextricably linked in Western culture. In fact, Christmas doesn't really feel like Christmas until you hear Sinatra's warm baritone singing “Silent Night” or “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” whether on the radio, in a restaurant, a mall, or at home on your stereo. Both of these songs, by the way, are played on Ultimate Christmas.

There are plenty of Frank Sinatra Christmas recordings out there, and hearing his voice helps to evoke the spirit of the upcoming holiday season. When you hear Ol' Blue Eyes lend his voice to “The First Noel,” you know the holidays are well and truly on their way.

So where does Sinatra's connection to Christmas come from? It goes back to 1948, when Sinatra's then record company Columbia introduced the LP format. At that time, the 32-year-old man who later became known as The Chairman Of The Board released Christmas songs by SinatraFrank Sinatra's first Christmas album, arranged by the fearless Axel Stordahl.

It contained eight traditional Christmas songs, beginning with “White Christmas” (a song he first recorded as a single in 1944), alongside carols such as “O Little Town Of Bethlehem” – apparently one of Sinatra's favorite songs – and culminating in “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.”

The world had to wait nine years for another Christmas album by Frank Sinatra, by which time Sinatra had already established himself as a master of The great American songbook and moved to a new label, Capitol, for which he delivered some of the best work of his career.
