Sheriff: Suspect in child sex case also accused of murdering girl in Jacksonville

A Jacksonville man who is already in custody for illicit sexual acts with a minor must now answer for the intentional murder of a child in another case, the sheriff's office said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) said officers were notified of an unresponsive child on Allison Street at the corner of Lowell Avenue on February 18. Firefighters took the child to a nearby hospital, but medical personnel pronounced the girl dead.

The medical examiner concluded that the child's cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma and diphenhydramine poisoning. Diphenhydramine is found in common over-the-counter allergy medications. According to a medical case report, acute diphenhydramine poisoning can have serious, possibly fatal consequences if not treated appropriately.

After an investigation by the JSO Homicide Unit and forensics, 60-year-old Tyrone Tillman Golson was identified as the suspect, according to the sheriff's office.

Golson is already behind bars for another arrest, JSO said. According to court records, Golson was arrested on Feb. 23 on three counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor, possession of photographs/sexual acts involving a child, sexual advances toward a child via computer and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

On Wednesday, the sheriff's office announced that prosecutors had charged Golson with second-degree premeditated murder, alleging he committed a dangerous act demonstrating a depraved mind without premeditation.

According to court records, Golson's next court appearance is scheduled for Friday morning at the Duval County Courthouse.
