Death of Johnny Wactor: According to sources, police are arresting several people in connection with the fatal shooting of the “General Hospital” actor

LOS ANGELES — Multiple law enforcement sources told ABC News that the Los Angeles Police Department launched an operation Thursday to arrest people in the murder of “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor.

According to police, Wactor was shot “without provocation” around 3:25 a.m. on May 25 after he finished his shift at a bar and was walking to his car.

He was confronted by three men who had lifted his car “with a jack and were in the process of stealing the catalytic converter,” police said in a statement.

In an emotional press conference in June, Wactor's family and friends urged arrests in the case.

“I'm here because one of the best men – if not the best man – I've ever known was tragically and brutally taken from this earth,” Wactor's friend Micah Parker said at the press conference. “He was taken from his mother, his brothers, his extended family, his friends and his fans.”

Shortly before he was shot, Wactor was with a co-worker and immediately confronted her to protect her, according to his family and friends.

“They were wearing a mask and they pulled out a gun,” Wactor's friend Colin Flynn told ABC News. “And from what I understand, Johnny was literally standing between himself and his colleague. And the shooter just pulled the trigger and ran away.”

In a message to the perpetrators, Parker vowed: “We will find you.”

“They can no longer terrorize our streets and steal and kill with impunity,” Parker said.

“First, I want to thank the LAPD, who risk their lives every day and are here with us today,” Parker said. “But I also ask you: do not rest, do not let up until these three murderers are brought to justice.”
