A toddler died and two siblings were injured after their father abducted them from Virginia Beach, Virginia, late Wednesday, fled from police and crashed an SUV on the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County, Maryland, Thursday morning, authorities said.

Virginia State Police issued an Amber Alert early Thursday after Dana Plummer, 36, of Virginia Beach, stabbed a woman and child and then fled with his 7-year-old son, 5-year-old son and 16-month-old daughter.

Virginia State Police pursued Plummer after attempting to stop him in Fairfax County, police said.

The accident occurred on the outer loop of Interstate 495 at the Branch Avenue on-ramp at about 9:05 a.m., the county fire department said.

All three children were injured and the toddler died of his injuries in hospital, Virginia Beach police said.

No information was initially released about the condition of the other two children or Plummer.

Plummer was charged with aggravated assault, child abduction, inducing minors to commit crimes and domestic violence, Virginia Beach police said. It was initially unclear whether he has a lawyer.
