Popular farmer is buried after tragic accident
The late Bobby Richardson.

Condolences have poured in across Limerick for a popular Lisnagry farmer who died in a tragic farming accident earlier this week.

Bobby Richardson, of Killeenagarriff, Lisnagry, County Limerick, was killed in an attack by a bull on Tuesday 13 August.

He is scheduled to be buried this Saturday after the requiem mass at St. Patrick's Church in Ahane.

The tragic death of Mr Richardson, who was much loved in his community, has left the North Limerick region in a state of shock, with mourners united in their grief for the farmer who was described as “a real gentleman and always a very helpful neighbour”.

The entire community has rallied around the Richardson family in the days since the farmer's untimely death. One mourner wrote online: “Words cannot express the sadness we feel for all of you. May you give each other strength to get through the dark days ahead. Heaven's bed to his gentle soul.”

Others said, “We know your family is a strong unit and I know you will find comfort and support in each other and will continue to cherish the memory of your father.” They also noted that “the sincere expression of grief and sadness reflects the grief you share.”

Mourners unanimously remembered Bobby as a “kind, gentle soul” and a “considerate gentleman” who lived to help his neighbors and those around him.

“Bobby was a great person and a great neighbor, always ready to help, just a few weeks ago he was, as always, a great help at my father's funeral. We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragedy,” one mourner wrote in an online post.

“I was so saddened to read of this tragic death… a man going about his business… Hope he is resting in the arms of our Lord now,” wrote another mourner.

Both the Gardaí and the Health and Safety Executive have confirmed they are investigating Mr Richardson's tragic death as a result of the bull attack.

The HSA recorded 16 farm-related deaths in Ireland in 2023, four more than in 2022. Half of those killed on farms last year were aged 65 or over.

Mr Richardson leaves behind his wife Joan, his children Henry, Martin and Bríd, their partners Martina, Sinéad and Harry, his grandchildren Harry and Winnie, his siblings George, Noel, Mary, Rebecca and Teresa, his brothers and sisters-in-law, and a wide network of family, friends, neighbours and admirers.

His funeral will take place this Friday (16 August) from 4 p.m. at the home of his son Martin (V94 KF2C).

The funeral mass for the deceased farmer will take place on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church in Ahane, followed by burial in Killeenagarriff Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the Richardson family has suggested donations be made to the Parkinsons Association of Ireland if desired.
