Suspect in Moreno Valley murder case arrested in Pomona

MORENO VALLEY, CALIFORNIA — After an arrest warrant was issued this week for a man who authorities say gunned down a man in Moreno Valley, the manhunt for the suspect has been called off.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced Thursday that 31-year-old Joe Miramontes Jr. of Moreno Valley was arrested.

He was taken into custody Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Laurel Avenue in Pomona and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of murder, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported.

According to the sheriff's office, Miramontes and 30-year-old Gilbert Ramirez were involved in an argument in the 24000 block of Bostwick Drive, near Cactus Avenue, around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

During the altercation, Miramontes allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim several times, then left the scene, said Sergeant Lance Stoyer of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Officers and paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced Ramirez dead at the scene. Ramirez was listed as a resident of Moreno Valley.

According to the sheriff's department, homicide detectives identified Miramontes as the suspected shooter and obtained an arrest warrant.
