20-year-old driver seriously injured in rollover accident in Jasper County

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a rollover crash that left a young driver seriously injured west of Jasper.

Police tell KFDM/Fox 4 News that 20-year-old Nathan Self of Burkeville is in Jasper Hospital where doctors are treating him for life-threatening injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation, Self was driving west on State Highway 63 around 2:20 a.m. when his Ford single-cab pickup truck left the road, rolled onto its side and struck a tree.

I was taken by ambulance to CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Rescue crews from the East End VFD found Self on the ground next to the pickup truck. Firefighters assisted Allegiance EMS in getting Self into the ambulance.

They give “a lot of credit” to Deputy Daniel Coons of the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, who applied a tourniquet and helped Self before emergency services arrived on the scene.
