Get ready for FSMA 204 with Famous Software

Although the deadline for compliance is not until January 20, 2026, many companies in the fresh produce industry are already preparing intensively for the application of FSMA 204.

Since its inception, this steering committee has met regularly to delve deeper into the rule itself and understand what retailers and customers will plan and demand from food service providers.

“We have worked extensively with our customers to prepare them for the product traceability initiative. Thanks to these efforts, Famous requires only a few changes for our customers to be FSMA 204 compliant,” explains Hammack. Famous Software's ERP version 2024 is now available and includes a number of different improvements, including some that directly relate to FSMA 204.

“We already have a traceability report that our customers currently use and which contains most of the data. We are adding some columns that will make it easier for customers to provide the required information.”

About FSMA 204:

Section 204(d) of the Food Safety Modernization Act requires enhanced traceability records for foods on the Food Traceability List (FTL) to expedite the identification and removal of contaminated foods from the marketplace and reduce foodborne illness. The rule requires the retention of Key Data Elements (KDEs) related to Critical Tracking Events (CTEs) and reporting to FDA within 24 hours or an agreed-upon reasonable time. The rules apply to both domestic and foreign entities in the food supply chain. January 20, 2026 is the set date for the recordkeeping requirement.
