Outlaw sentenced to two years in prison after accident in Coventry

NEWPORT – A high-speed crash at a rural Coventry intersection in 2022 resulted in a prison sentence for a Texas driver.

Landon Outlaw, 42, of Liberty Hill, will spend two years behind bars after pleading guilty to reckless driving, stemming from a September 2022 crash that left two people seriously injured.

Vermont State Police investigators determined that Outlaw's Toyota Tacoma, traveling north on Route 14, failed to stop at a stop sign. The pickup truck skidded across the median and collided head-on with a Ford F-150 traveling south on Route 5.

Both vehicles were engulfed in flames shortly after the collision. A passerby who arrived shortly after the impact described a hectic scene as passersby rushed to rescue the injured from the burning wreckage.

Court records show that Judge Thibault imposed a prison sentence of two to 10 years, with eight years suspended.

As part of an agreement, prosecutors dropped other charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol causing personal injury.

Data from Outlaw's vehicle showed that the speed was nearly 90 miles per hour in the moments before impact. Both drivers suffered multiple broken bones and internal injuries that required extensive medical treatment at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.
