LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) – A southeastern Nebraska man accused of keeping drugs within reach of children pleaded not guilty Thursday.

Quentin Teeters waived his preliminary hearing in Saline County District Court, and Judge Linda Bauer remanded his case to district court.

On July 5, authorities searched a home in Wilber looking for 36-year-old Teeters.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office said Teeters, a sex offender, failed to update his whereabouts on the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry.

Officers found Teeters in the basement and arrested him.

According to court documents, they saw a glass vial of methamphetamine on a nearby coffee table.

So they searched the house and found several baggies of meth as well as pipes with meth residue, officials said.

Four children lived in the house, which is described in court documents as a dirty drug house.

An affidavit states that officers found dog feces “smeared all over the floor” in two rooms.

There were also moldy food and drinks throughout the house, the deputies said.

Authorities also arrested a woman, 32-year-old Cortney Connelly, in the home.

She is charged with child abuse and possession of a controlled substance.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 27.

Teeters is charged with three serious crimes in this case: violation of the Sex Offenses Registration Act, child abuse and possession of a controlled substance.

He will be arraigned in Saline County District Court on October 2.
