Usher cancels further concerts before tour starts due to injuries

ATLANTA – One day after canceling his tour opener, Usher is postponing the following two shows in Atlanta, which were scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

In a statement released on Thursday, the “Confessions” singer cited recovery from an injury as the reason for postponing the first, almost sold-out dates of the Past Present Future tour in his hometown.

“Earlier this week I sustained a neck injury while rehearsing to give my fans the best USHER show ever,” he wrote in a message shared on social media on Thursday. “My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment I could overcome the injury and be ready for the premiere. Unfortunately the injury has not healed yet and my doctors have advised me not to perform any shows this week.”

Usher then announced, “The good news is that the doctors say that with the necessary rest and treatment, I should be ready to start the tour,” at the next scheduled stop on August 20 in Washington, DC.

“I love my fans and thank you for understanding that I need to recover from this injury so that I can give you the 100 percent peak performance you expect from a USHER show and that I will be on stage in your city very soon,” he wrote.

Will Usher concerts in Atlanta be postponed?

The shows scheduled for State Farm Arena in Atlanta will be postponed to dates in December, Usher said in his statement Thursday.

The August 14 show will be rescheduled to December 9, the August 16 concert to December 10, and the August 17 performance to December 12.

His next shows will be on August 20 and 21 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.

The tour is set to be the culmination of a landmark few years for Usher, who rocked his performance at the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show in February, days after releasing his ninth solo studio album, Coming Home. The halftime headliner wrapped up his critically acclaimed 100-show Las Vegas residency in December.

He announced the tour days before his Super Bowl performance, initially announcing 24 dates in North America before expanding it to 58 shows by November. The tour is scheduled to resume in Europe in 2025, taking place in London from March to May.

Usher postponed earlier concert on the eve of the tour

On Wednesday, just hours before he was scheduled to begin his tour at the State Farm Arena in his hometown of Atlanta on Wednesday night, the singer canceled the first show after struggling with physical pain beforehand.

“In my 30+ year career, I have put 100% of my blood, sweat and tears into delivering the best performance and creating an unforgettable experience for my fans,” Usher wrote in a statement shared on social media on Wednesday. “I fully intend to do the same for this tour, which is why I have to postpone tonight's show and rescheduled it to a later date to give my body a second to rest and heal. You will still see a little bit of the past, a little bit of the present and a unique glimpse of the future on the rescheduled date, but you will also see 100% of me.”

Usher took the stage at the annual Essence Festival of Culture in July, performing hits from his 20th anniversary album, Confessions. Days earlier, he took the stage at the BET Awards to accept the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award, following a musical tribute from Keke Palmer, Chloë, Coco Jones and more.

Usher's lovers and friends Festival cancelled, organizers cite weather concerns in Las Vegas

In May, organizers of Usher's Lovers & Friends music festival made the “incredibly heartbreaking decision” to cancel the festival just hours before it was scheduled to begin because the National Weather Service had issued storm warnings.

“Based on recommendations from the National Weather Service and in consultation with local authorities, we must make the safest decision for our fans, artists and staff and cancel tomorrow's Lovers & Friends Festival,” the statement said.
