Police – NBC 6 South Florida

A Lauderhill Police detective arrested for digital voyeurism is said to have secretly filmed himself having sex with his ex-girlfriend, according to an affidavit.

Lauderhill police officials said Officer Johnny Mateo, 42, was arrested Tuesday and placed on administrative leave.

According to the affidavit obtained by NBC6 on Thursday, Mateo dated a woman (on and off) for years before the two separated.

The woman decided to look for evidence that Mateo had cheated on her and found two USB sticks in a kitchen drawer, the affidavit states.

The woman checked the video files on the drives and found a video involving her that had been recorded without her consent, the affidavit states.

According to the police report, the video shows the couple having sex in the master bedroom of Mateo's house in Sunrise. The camera was probably placed on the dresser.

The woman said numerous other women were seen in separate videos during the trips, the affidavit states.

Mateo was arrested and taken to prison. He was released on bail on Wednesday.

Officials said Mateo joined the Lauderhill Police Department in 2017. According to the police X-Report, he was assigned as a detective in the traffic homicide unit in 2022.
