Parole trial for man who killed Maddy Middleton will take place in Santa Cruz; judge – KION546

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) — The parole trial for the man who killed 8-year-old Maddy Middleton will remain in Santa Cruz, a judge ruled Thursday afternoon.

The prosecutor said she was “completely opposed” to moving the parole process out of the county, adding that moving it out of Santa Cruz would be “an insult to the community.”

Adrian Gonzales' attorney argued that the media attention on the case would make it difficult to find a fair and unbiased jury. The defense pointed to the local and national media coverage and the fact that it was very extensive.

The jury selection begins on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
