SACRAMENTO COUNTY – One man convicted of shooting a Sierra College football player at a party in 2019 was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.

Sierra College football player Chancelor Fields-Colbert was shot and killed in 2019 while attending a party at an Airbnb.

After a fight broke out, prosecutors said Sean Hardy fired two shots into the air, causing everyone to run away.

Fields-Colbert got into his car, but quickly realized a friend was missing. As he searched for his friend, he got caught up in another fight.

When he tried to break up the fight, prosecutors said, Hardy tried to hit him but missed. Hardy then pulled out a gun and shot Fields-Colbert four times, prosecutors said.

Fields-Colbert was shot once in the back and died in the hospital.

Hardy was convicted of second-degree murder for personally discharging a firearm, causing death. He was also convicted of illegal possession of a firearm.
