Receiver Jordan Addison avoids “serious injury” to his ankle

BEREA, OHIO – Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell was pleased to report on Thursday that his team left the Browns' headquarters without any serious injuries, despite having completed two joint practices with one of the NFL's physically stronger teams.

The biggest shock came on Wednesday when the recipient Jordan Addison was carried off the field with a left ankle injury. On Thursday, O'Connell said Addison “escaped serious injury.”

“He's going to go through the rehab process,” O'Connell added. “I'm looking forward to getting him back as soon as possible. I don't think he's going to be out for a long time or anything like that.”

Recipient Justin Jefferson sounded confident that Addison will be ready for the regular season.

“I saw beforehand that it wasn't going to be a major injury,” Jefferson said. “It's always annoying when a key player, a starter, goes down with an injury like that. He's going to be out for a couple of weeks, but we need him for Week 1, and as long as we have him for Week 1, we're good.”

Starting lineup for the inside linebacker Blake Cashman suffered a finger injury during practice on Wednesday and did not practice on Thursday. Receiver Thomas Thayer suffered a concussion on Wednesday, missed Thursday and will not play in Saturday's preseason game in Cleveland.

“Blake has had a little surgery,” O'Connell said. “Once that surgery, stitches and everything heal, Blake will be able to walk again.”

O'Connell called Thomas' injury a “scary moment” that could have been worse than a concussion.
