Chloe Baileyhalf of the sister duo Chloe x Halle and individually simply as Chloeis a triple threat. The singer, actress and dancer's debut single “Have Mercy” went platinum and she has since established herself as a solo artist with singles such as “How Does It Feel” with Chris Brown and “Treat Me” from their debut album In pieces. The project, released in March 2023, peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Top R&B Album chart. Despite this performance, In pieces was described as a flop by several critics. With the release of their second album Trouble in paradiseHowever, Chlöe proves the sceptics wrong. With vocals that are like candy for the ear, a great production and lyrics that you can't get out of your head, Trouble in paradise shows Chlöe's sensual side and reveals her true self.

This album gives the listener a more intimate R&B feeling than In pieceswhich seemed to have more of a mainstream pop approach. Chlöe also dropped this project with very little promotion compared to the rollout for In pieceswhich added an element of surprise that many fans were not expecting. The process of creating this album was also different from her debut, as she recorded several songs in St. Lucia, hence the title of the album Trouble in paradiseThe artist claimed she had “more fun making music than she has in a long time” and now describes the Eastern Caribbean state as her favorite island.

“Thank you for inspiring me more than you know. I have found my happiness, my peace, my joy, my sanctuary here,” Chlöe wrote in the caption of her Instagram post following the album's release.

From the first track, listeners can sense the comfort she found on the island through the sound quality and the way she narrates, showing her growth as an artist. The album's opener, “All I Got (Free Falling)” is a dreamy, melodic R&B song that sets the mood for the rest of the LP. Chlöe sings about an unreliable lover she didn't want to fall in love with, but somehow can't let go. The layered background vocals and piano make you feel like you're free falling with her.

The singer then gives us a soulful performance and shows her singing on “Might As Well”, a duet with Ty Dolla $ignThis is followed by the breakup hit “Boy Bye”, which was released as the project's second single in early April, and she keeps the tempo up with “Redemption” with its entertaining Afro-pop vibe.

With “Temporarily Single” she keeps the groove going. With an interpolation of TyreseOn the 1998 hit “Lately,” the production on this track stands out, as do Chlöe’s buttery smooth vocals as she sings about a love affair that seems wrong but feels right.

The singer also embraces her sexuality throughout the album, heating things up with the self-love anthem “Rose.” Chlöe makes it clear that no man can love her like she does—and the viral sex toy. She stays in the lovey-dovey mood on the ballad “Same Lingerie,” which is about not feeling the same sexual spark after a breakup, with a little more masturbation thrown in. She keeps the same sexy energy on the seductive lead single “FYS” and the daring song “Nice Girls Finish Last.” In these tracks, Chlöe not only shows off her vocal range, but also her writing talent.

Chlöe gets the party going again with Anderson .Paak on the upbeat jam “Favorite” and dives back into the Afrobeats area on the YG Marley– with “Never Let You Go”. The collaborations and vibes continue on “Shake” with Jeremiah and on the album's standout song “Want Me”, the eagerly awaited reunion with her sister Halle Bailey.

In “Want Me,” Chlöe and Halle lament a lover who doesn't put in the effort. Even if someone else does put in the effort, they really care about the one who doesn't. It should come as no surprise that the sisters sound angelic together. Although this is Chlöe's song with a Halle feature and not a pure Chloe x Halle track, their undeniable spark and unbreakable bond remains intact.

Elsewhere, Chlöe mixes R&B and pop on the sentimental “Moments,” the sweet and breezy “Strawberry Lemonade,” and the wistful “Somebody,” which closes the set.

Chlöe is in her element and has really come into her own as a solo artist on Trouble in paradise. She delivered on all fronts – from her vocal talent to the songwriting, storytelling and production, the quality of the album is outstanding and feels authentic. This project not only shows the versatility and range of the Atlanta native, but also her overall development as an artist. With Trouble in paradiseChlöe has proven to anyone who may have doubted her that she has the solo talent needed and that she is here to stay.
