4 suspects arrested in connection with the shooting of actor Johnny Wactor

Almost three months after General Hospital Actor Johnny Wactor was shot dead at the age of 37; the Los Angeles Police Department has arrested several suspects in connection with his killing.

In a statement provided to PEOPLE, the LAPD confirmed that it arrested four people on Thursday, August 15, and seized evidence in its ongoing investigation into the May 25 death of Wactor. Wactor was killed when he ran into armed car thieves who were attempting to steal the catalytic converter from Wactor's vehicle.

“Earlier today, the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Bureau Homicide executed search warrants at several locations throughout Los Angeles in connection with the John Wactor case,” the statement said.

This resulted in arrest warrants for murder being issued against four men: Robert Barceleau, 18, of Huntington Park, Frank Olano, 22, of Inglewood, and Leonel Gutierrez, 18, and Sergio Estrada, 18, both of Los Angeles County.

PEOPLE has asked Wactor's manager for comment on the arrests.

The Aug. 15 arrests came just 11 days after the LAPD released video stills of the suspects and the stolen black Infiniti Q50 sedan that police say the suspects were driving on the day of Wactor's death.

Wactor's brother, Grant Wactor, previously told PEOPLE that Johnny – who worked as a bartender – and a co-worker were walking to their vehicles after their bar shift in downtown LA at about 3:25 a.m. when the shooting occurred. Grant said Johnny stood in front of his co-worker and held his hands up when he was shot.

“He didn't confront her,” Grant explained. “He didn't try to stop her. He just tried to defuse the situation by stepping back.”

A coroner determined that Wactor died of a gunshot wound to the chest, and the cause of death was listed as homicide.

Since his death, a GoFundMe page to help his family with expenses has raised more than $144,000 as of August 15.

Wactor's agent David Shaul, who confirmed his death to PEOPLE on May 25, remembered his late client as “a spectacular human being.”

“Not only was he a talented actor dedicated to his craft, but he was a true moral role model to all who knew him,” Shaul said in May. “He represented hard work, tenacity and a never-give-up attitude. Through the ups and downs of a demanding profession, he always kept his head up and continued to strive to be the best he could be.”
