Former Michigan Football League running back Chris Evans suffers a season-ending injury in Bengals training camp

It's been a tough week for former Michigan State football players at NFL fall training camp with the 2024 season just around the corner.

On Tuesday it was announced that the former Wolverine quarterback JJ McCarthy would need knee surgery after his NFL debut in the preseason and it was confirmed on Wednesday that McCarthy would miss the entire rookie season. Now NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that the former Michigan running back Chris Evans will also miss the entire 2024 season after suffering a torn patellar tendon during the Cincinnati Bengals' practice on Thursday.

This is a big blow for Evans, who had a stellar rookie season in Cincinnati but saw significantly less playing time and production over the past two seasons with the Bengals. In four seasons at the University of Michigan, Evans totaled 1,795 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns on 320 carries, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. As a weapon out of the backfield in the Wolverines' passing attack, he added 49 receptions for 479 yards and two touchdowns.

Evans was selected by Cincinnati in the sixth round, 202nd overall, in the 2021 NFL Draft.
