Community celebrates induction of famous local artist and writer into the Disney Hall of Fame

Cambria County, Pennsylvania — Steve Ditko, born November 2, 1927 in Johnstown, is now in the Disney Hall of Fame.

His milestone was celebrated Thursday at a bottle factory in Johnstown.

Matt Lamb, managing director of Bottle Works, says the event has been at least four months in the making.

“And when you think about the impact that Spider-Man alone – even if we're not talking about his other characters – has on our society right now. A multibillion-dollar industry every year, with the movies and comics and everything. So it's a pretty big deal,” says Lamb.

There were arts, crafts and refreshments, as well as a film featuring one of Ditko's characters, Dr. Strange.

Ditko fans say they are not disappointed with the outcome.

Other characters Ditkos is known for creating include Mr. A, Blue Beetle, Squirrel Girl and Static.
