Motorcyclist without a license reported for crossing the bike path in Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA — A motorist faces legal trouble after being stopped by police for riding an electric motorcycle in a Santa Monica bike lane, police said.

Officers on Ocean Avenue spotted the man riding the electric motorcycle in the bike lane. He was not wearing a helmet, Santa Monica police said Thursday.

After a traffic stop, the police learned that the man's driver's license had been revoked due to a previous conviction for drunk driving.

He was charged with several traffic violations and his motorcycle was confiscated, police said.

Police reminded residents that motorcycles are not allowed on bike paths and riders must always wear a helmet and have a valid driver's license.
