Eleven-year-old Virginia boy charged with nearly two dozen swatting calls in multiple states

An 11-year-old boy from Virginia was extradited to Florida after being accused of making false threats against school.

Investigators say the boy, who is suspected of similar activity in other states, made nearly two dozen swatting calls targeting Flagler and Volusia counties.

“He is, quite frankly, a juvenile shoulder-roller,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly.

The investigation began in May and included a series of alarming calls to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office reporting bombs in schools, mass shootings in progress, and even the shooting of a teacher and student.

“We worked with the FBI and my Criminal Intelligence Unit, a real-time crime center, which ultimately led us to this young man in Henrico County, Virginia,” said Sheriff Staly.

The sheriff explained that while the 11-year-old was tech-savvy enough to disguise his voice and hide his location, he was unable to completely cover his tracks, allowing authorities to trace the calls back to him.

“These calls disrupted school operations and diverted resources from other potential emergencies,” Staly said.

After obtaining a search warrant, authorities discovered violent and explicit videos in the boy's home and on his devices.

“I really hope that whatever happens, he gets some serious mental health counseling or treatment,” the sheriff added. “Some of the things we found on his phone and other devices are very disheartening.”

The boy is accused of several serious crimes, including making false threats, and authorities in Virginia may also file additional charges.
