Daniel Jones injury update: Giants QB ready for first game since knee injury in Week 2 of preseason against Texans

Among the numerous teams that suffered from quarterback problems in the 2023 season are the New York Giants, who lost Daniel Jones to a knee injury in Week 9 of last year.

Nearly 10 months later, the 27-year-old is said to be fully recovered and expected to return to the field before the regular season. Jones is looking to get back to his old self, who threw for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2022.

Although he struggled in the first half of the 2023 season, a fresh start could be just what the quarterback needs to get himself and his team back into playoff contention.

Here's an injury update on Jones, who is ready for his first game since last November.

Latest information on Daniel Jones' injury

Giants head coach Brian Daboll told reporters Sunday that Jones will start the team's second preseason game against the Houston Texans. Saturday's game will be his first appearance since suffering a torn ACL last November.

Before his injury in Week 9 against the Raiders, the 2023 Giants were already struggling with a dismal 1-4 record, with their only win coming in the form of a narrow three-point victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Up to that point, Jones had thrown six interceptions and just two touchdowns for a total of 900 yards.

Jones, entering his sixth year in the league, has looked solid so far in training camp, but this weekend his instincts will be tested in a live game for the first time in nearly 10 months without the protection of a red jersey.

Backup quarterback Drew Lock started the Giants' first preseason game last Thursday but was forced out early with a hip injury. He is expected to miss several practices before the Week 2 game, and third batter Tommy DeVito will back up Jones in the interim.

Daboll said the team doesn't plan to sign another quarterback while monitoring Lock's recovery. Here's a look at the three passers on New York's current roster.
