Report: Co-pilot of doomed Brazilian plane said plane needed 'more power' before crashing, killing all 62 on board

One of the pilots of the Brazilian plane that crashed last week, killing all on board, had raised the alarm one minute before the crash and warned of the impending disaster.

A transcript of the cockpit's “black box” voice recorder indicates that the pilots noticed a sharp drop in altitude prior to the crash, local Brazilian broadcaster TV Globo reported on Wednesday, citing anonymous sources involved in the crash investigation.

At one point, the co-pilot asked the pilot what was going on and the pilot said the plane needed “more power,” according to the transcript, which includes two hours of audio.

This new revelation comes as investigators are still trying to determine why the plane, an ATR-72-500 operated by Voepass, crashed, killing all 62 passengers and crew.

The plane was en route from Cascavel to Sao Paulo when it crashed in Vinhedo on Friday afternoon local time.

The plane crashed about 17,000 feet in about a minute, but no one on the ground was injured.

Brazil's Aircraft Accident Investigation Center said in a statement that it “guarantees” that no news channel had access to the audio, transcript or voice recorder data. However, it did not immediately comment on TV Globo's report.

The footage captured the moment the plane spun dangerously out of control as it crashed into a clump of trees.

The pilots did not report an emergency or bad weather conditions before losing contact with workers on the ground.

The audio recording probably cannot be traced back to the exact cause of the crash, Globo reported, citing those involved in the investigation.
