Boston man charged with driving aggression after gun found, police say

A Dorchester man was arrested and charged Thursday afternoon after police found a firearm in his car following a driving rage incident in which he was involved, Boston police said.

Davente Monteiro, 24, was charged with unlawful carrying of a firearm, unlawful carrying of a loaded firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, assault with a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime, police said.

Boston police said they responded to a call of a person about a gun at 488 Blue Hill Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on August 15.

When officers arrived, they identified the victim, who was screaming and pointing at an occupied vehicle, police said.

The victim stated that while driving near the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road, an argument broke out with the driver and passengers of the vehicle he pointed at, police added.

When both vehicles stopped at a red light, the argument became more heated and a passenger – Monteiro – got out of his car and started taking photos of the victim's car, police said.

Monteiro opened the victim's passenger door and threatened him, causing the victim to think Monteiro had a gun, police said.

Officers approached the vehicle the victim had pointed to to examine the three people inside, police said.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a firearm in a backpack in the back seat, police said. Investigators determined the weapon was a Glock 30 .45 caliber loaded with one round in the barrel and 17 rounds in the magazine, police said.

The high-capacity magazine was also equipped with an extension and a rail accessory attached to the weapon, police added.

Police arrested all three people in the vehicle and further investigation led to the arrest of Monteiro, police said.

Monteiro is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court, police said.
