Man accused of child abuse at a child development center in Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) – A Berea man is facing child abuse charges following an incident at a Richmond child development center in April.

On August 9, 40-year-old Casey Caudill was arrested on child abuse charges. The arrest followed a nearly five-month investigation into an incident at the Eastern Scholar Child Development Center in Richmond.

When Richmond police reviewed surveillance footage from April 23, they said they saw Caudill sitting next to a three-year-old child and squeezing his arm, causing bruising.

In a Facebook post, Richmond police said Caudill was linked to two other incidents at facilities in another city, but no charges had been filed.

John Roden is deputy director of the Kentucky River Foothills Development Council, which oversees the center. He says they were unaware of these previous situations.

“As part of our hiring process, we conduct several background checks, including court administration background checks, a child abuse and neglect registry, and FBI fingerprint checks. All of these checks are required for state licensing of child care facilities,” Roden said.

Caudill was released from jail on Wednesday on $2,500 bail. Among the conditions of his release is that he must not have contact with minors.

He will appear in court on Tuesday.
