Priscilla Presley honors Elvis on the 47th anniversary of his death

Priscilla Presley honors her late husband Elvis on his recent death anniversary.

On Friday, August 16, the actress paid tribute to Elvis on Instagram with a touching video to mark the occasion – 47 years after the King died of a heart attack on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42.

“47 years and not a day goes by that I don't think of you,” 79-year-old Priscilla wrote under the clip, adding a rose emoji.

The video itself showed a snapshot of the young Elvis slowly zooming out, accompanied by an instrumental version of “Always on My Mind,” a ballad the musician made famous in 1972. At the end of the clip, the text appeared on a black screen: “Elvis Aaron Presley, January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977.”

Priscilla's brief tribute comes just three days after she also paid tribute to Elvis' mother Gladys, who died on August 14, 1958. “She meant the world to him,” Priscilla wrote alongside another video.

“He told so many stories about how protective she was… one of them was that she walked him to school because she was afraid he would get beaten up by the bad boys of the school. He asked her to stop before they got near the school. I never met Gladys but I felt like I knew her through all his stories. -P🌹 🙏.”

Priscilla’s message “not a day goes by” comes months after she shared it in an interview with The British daily newspaper The TimesIn December, she spoke about her time at Graceland and how she “can still feel the spirit of Elvis” there.

“To be honest, there is no day [that] “It goes away when I don't think about him,” Priscilla said. “Just last week I saw a shirt and I could almost hear myself saying, 'Elvis would love that. Should I get it for him?'”

Before wondering whether her late husband had changed genres over the course of his career and “turned more to gospel music,” she also considered what he would have done in life if he had not died at a young age.

“Musically, I think he was pretty happy with the way things were turning out. He loved knowing that his music meant something to people,” she said. “I remember sitting with him at Graceland and listening to some of the songs he recorded, and I asked him why he sang so many ballads. He immediately told me, 'Because those songs touch the heart. There's the truth of life in those songs.' He was right.”

After celebrating her own 79th birthday in May, Priscilla continued to regale her fans and Elvis with fun behind-the-scenes stories on Instagram. In a recent clip uploaded on July 19, she responded to a fan who asked if she and the rock icon had “ever cooked together.”

“Elvis and I never cooked together, Elvis never cooked,” she revealed. “One time I tried to cook a meal for Elvis and the boys and it was pasta. I took my mother's menu and thought I had done a great job.”

“But I obviously made a few mistakes,” she laughed. “I left some ingredients from the dish. And Elvis only took one bite. He really tried hard to like it, believe me… I never cooked again.”
