Son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer accused of murdering his girlfriend

Authorities have arrested the son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford. They have charged him with the murder of his girlfriend.

His girlfriend had disappeared six days earlier before authorities discovered her remains in Nevada. According to ABC10, police arrested Brent Clifford and charged him with the death of Patricia Portella-Wright. Portella-Wright's coworkers reported her missing after she failed to show up for work.

No one has seen her since August 4. Now search and rescue teams believe they have found Portella-Wright's body. They found it in an embankment off the Mount Rose Highway.

“Through investigation, we received information that led us to the Mt. Rose Highway area. Using a drone, we were able to locate the body of a woman on a steep slope,” the sheriff's office said. Authorities believe it is her but are waiting for the medical examiner to confirm the identity of the remains.

Son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer arrested

“During our investigation, we identified her boyfriend, Brent Clifford, as a person of interest in connection with her disappearance. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Clifford was arrested in Portola [California]. He was booked into the Placer County Jail on murder charges,” it said.

Authorities previously identified the son of Creedence Clearwater Revival's drummer as a suspect. Clifford was reportedly the last person to see Portella-Wright alive. He is also a suspect in the death of a Reno man who was visiting the area on August 9. Authorities found 68-year-old William Andrews with a gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities suspected that Clifford had stolen Andrews' 2003 Chevrolet Blazer.

“According to the Reno Police Department, Clifford is a person of interest in a homicide case in Reno. The male victim of this homicide was discovered on the morning of Sunday, August 11,” the Placer County Sheriff's Office also said. “The red 2003 Chevrolet Blazer belonging to the homicide victim was found in the same area where Clifford was arrested in Portola.”

Police tracked the car into Plumas County. Authorities later arrested Clifford on August 14 in Portola, California, on an identity theft warrant related to Portella-Wright's disappearance. After his arrest, authorities charged the son of the Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer with murder.

So far, authorities have stated that Clifford is not eligible for bail.
