In Jeremy Clarkson’s pub, a mistake by “cheerful” Charlie leads to police intervention: “There was trouble!”

There were a number of mishaps ahead of the official opening of Jeremy Clarkson's pub and there was apparently a police presence at the Oxfordshire location on Friday.

Former Top Gear star Clarkson, 64, has bought a pub in the Cotswolds which is about to open. The presenter has revealed news of his pub journey, which will feature in the next season of Prime hit Clarkson's Farm.

There was another chaotic update on Friday: police were on the scene. Clarkson's Lager and cider maker Hawkstone posted a clip on its Instagram account in which Clarkson's Farm star Charlie Ireland explained how his mistake led to police involvement.

Ireland, or “Cheerful Charlie” as Clarkson sarcastically calls him, is a land agent who advises the presenter on farm management.

Ireland is seen after speaking to police officers, who are laughing as the person filming explains: “Because you crossed out all the wrong lines on the application, the police had to come.”

He continued: “This is the kind of trouble you've caused.” A caption for the clip reads: “There's still a lot to do to get the pub ready for you the weekend after next – including naming it – Jeremy has an idea for a pub name – guess what it is – and name every single Hawkstone product on the bar – and someone will win a case of 24 bottles!”

Many people commented with suggestions for a name for the pub, while others expressed their surprise at Ireland's mistake.

“How can Charlie do anything wrong? He's Mr. Perfect,” one person asked.

Another wrote: “Bad Charlie!!” and someone else joked: “Did Cheer have too many Hawkstones when he filled out the application?”

“Oh Charlie!!!” commented another. Another noted: “Charlie is now thinking 'let me out, I'm done.'”

“Charlie is taken,” joked another. (sic)

On Thursday, Clarkson provided a comprehensive update on the pub's progress, not disappointing his fans when he shared on social media a post he writes every year on the day A-level results are announced.

In the tweet, he also confirmed when his pub would open its doors to the public. He stayed true to his 10-year tradition but added a modern twist, writing: “Don't worry if your A-level results aren't what you expected.”

“I got a C and two Un's and here I am, 46 years later, with my own pub. It opens next weekend if you fancy stopping by.”

Over the past decade, Clarkson has posted to many teenagers in time for their big day, reminding them that he was successful despite his less-than-perfect school performance.

While fans will be delighted to hear that the pub will be opening very soon, Clarkson has been battling issues regarding its location throughout the revamp, with the presenter only noticing new problems last week.
