Former Pleasant Grove High School teacher and coach accused of sexual contact with student

A former Pleasant Grove High School teacher and coach has been charged with engaging in sexual contact with a student.

Alex James Reedy, 28, is accused of allowing a school employee to have sexual contact with a student under the age of 19, according to court documents released Friday.

Reedy was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 11:08 a.m. Thursday and released at 3:19 p.m. on $10,000 bail.

Authorities said Reedy was fired before charges were filed against him.

Pleasant Grove Police Chief Danny Reid said Jefferson County Schools security notified police of an incident involving a student. No further details were released.

“We have been notified of the charges against our former employee. This individual was placed on leave on April 30, 2024. His employment was officially terminated on May 24, 2024, when his employment with Jefferson County Schools expired,” said Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin.

“We have and will continue to cooperate fully with the Pleasant Grove Police Department. I am not at liberty to disclose any further information as this is a case involving a minor and is now a law enforcement matter.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Reedy graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, where he was a student-athlete, in 2014 and from UAB in 2019.

He started as a social studies teacher at Pleasant Grove High School in 2020.
