WBA title fight between Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and Yuniel Dorticos goes into the competition on August 27

The previously scheduled title fight between Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and Yuniel Dorticos will now be the subject of a hearing about the stock exchange.

A date had been set for August 27 to clear promotional rights for Ramirez's mandatory title defense, the WBA confirmed on Friday. The development came more than two weeks after the deadline passed without an agreement being reached.

As defending champion of the WBA cruiserweight title, Ramirez is entitled to the higher amount of a 75/25 split from the knockdown. The meeting is open to all WBA-registered promoters, who must pay an entry fee.

The fight was scheduled for July 1st and carried a 30-day negotiation period. It was the first business for Ramirez (46-1, 30 KOs) since the end of his three-year contract with Golden Boy Promotions. The Mexican southpaw is expected to continue working with them, as a co-promotion with his own company, Zurdo Promotions.

Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs), a former WBA and IBF titleholder, is jointly promoted by Warriors Boxing and The Heavyweight Factory.

Ramirez dethroned the long-time but very inactive Arsen Goulamirian to win the title on March 30 in Inglewood, California. In their entertaining main event on DAZN, Ramirez defeated the California-based Armenian on points.

It was the start of a second division title reign for Ramirez, a 33-year-old left-hander who previously held the WBO super middleweight belt before falling soundly to WBA 175-pound titlist Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) in a November 2022 fight.

Since his promotion to cruiserweight, where Ramirez is ranked fourth according to The Ring, he has had two victories.

Dorticos' two previous titles were in the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) cruiserweight tournaments. He was drafted in the 12th round.th Round of Murat Gassiev in the semifinals of the first WBSS season in February 2018 and in the unification match between the undefeated title holders.

Dorticos made it to the finals of the WBSS in his second season, but lost in the twelfth round to Mairis Briedis (28-3, 20 KOs).

Only three fights followed, all of which ended in early knockouts. Dorticos ended an eighteen-month layoff with a first-round submission win over Alan Campa on June 8 in Hollywood, Florida. He was dropped from The Ring's top 10 after a year out of the ring. The win over Campa has not yet been recognized by the Ring Ratings Panel as grounds for a return to the rankings.

However, he was already the established WBA mandatory challenger. Ramirez was granted a title shot ahead of the 38-year-old Cuban on the condition that they meet immediately.

This fight is now scheduled under WBA Rule C.13. No boxer can take part in another fight until all parties have fulfilled the conditions for this contest.
