Reward offered for information in unsolved double murder

The OSBI said a particular gun purchased or traded around 2008 could help them solve an unsolved double murder.

A couple in their 60s were shot to death in their home in Welch, but the killer was never caught.

The type of weapon you need information about is a Smith and Wesson Sigma SW9F.

It was only manufactured for three years and investigators believe that if they manage to trace it, the case could be solved.

Investigators have reviewed evidence related to the unsolved 2008 case of Leota and William Huls.

The two were found shot to death in their home in Welch and were known as churchgoers who loved their community and each other.

“This case is heartbreaking because the perpetrator must have been extremely cold-hearted,” said prosecutor and investigator Gary Stansill.

Stansill said the Hulses' killer had been in Miami for a time because evidence was found there, too.

However, he said the case was never solved.

“The weapon in question is a Smith and Wesson Sigma SW9F. This weapon has been heavily restricted. It was only manufactured for a few years,” said OSBI Special Agent Tammy Ferrari.

She said the gun was only manufactured from 1994 to 1997 and they are looking for anyone in northeast Oklahoma, southeast Kansas or southwest Missouri who may have owned, sold or traded it.

They said this person is not accused of any crime.

“I hope that if anyone has this gun, sold it, traded it, still has it or has acquired it, they will pass on this information, or if they still have it, bring it over and let us do some test shots.”

The two investigators say that unsolved cases are lengthy and time-consuming, but they are convinced that justice must be done for every family affected.

“I've worked on them before, and they've been solved before,” Stansill said. “I believe there's no case that can't be solved.”

The OSBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, including general tips on the case.
