Son of Augusta murder victim speaks for first time since teens' arrest

AUGUSTA, Kansas (KWCH) – As the city of Augusta tries to process the latest developments in a murder case that has shocked the community, 12 News spoke with the son of 93-year-old Joanne Johnson after two 14-year-old girls were arrested in the case.

For Tim Johnson, the shock of his mother's death is still fresh, nearly a year later. On Thursday, he received a call from agents informing him of the arrests. It has been nearly a year since Johnson and his wife found his mother brutally murdered. He said the arrests do not close the case, but if there is any positive to the developments, it is another step closer to justice for his mother.

Although the age of the suspects in this case is obvious, it doesn't matter much to Tim Johnson when it comes to getting justice for his mother.

“As a human being, it's very difficult to understand that a 13 or 14 year old could allegedly have done something like that. It's very difficult to understand as a human being,” said Tim. “If you know how it happened, if you know what we saw, it shouldn't matter in court.”

Speaking to 12 News, Tim also spoke at length about his love for his mother. Although it was difficult for him to relive what happened, he doesn't want the memory of her to fade.
