Injury concerns continue for the Dodgers, All-Star goes on the IL with tendinitis

The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost another All-Star to the injured list, this time a starting pitcher.

Los Angeles will look to protect its slim two-game lead in the National League West (as of Friday) over the up-and-coming Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres, and the Dodgers will need to ensure their pitching staff strings together dominant performances.

That will be more difficult for the rest of August, as 30-year-old pitcher Tyler Glasnow is being placed on the injured list with elbow tendinitis, MLB.com's John Denton reported Friday.

“The Dodgers placed RHP Tyler Glasnow on the 15-day injured list,” Denton said. “He was scheduled to play Saturday night against the (St. Louis Cardinals) at Busch Stadium.”

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic confirmed Denton's report and explained the illness Glasnow is currently suffering from.

“Tyler Glasnow is being placed on the injured list due to tendinitis in his right elbow,” Ardaya said.

Glasnow, who will be named an All-Star for the first time in 2024, has a 9-5 record, a 3.49 ERA and 168 strikeouts in 134 innings pitched for Los Angeles this season.

With Glasnow out for at least a few weeks, the Dodgers need to make sure Jack Flaherty continues to pitch well and Clayton Kershaw gets back into shape sooner rather than later.

As of now, the NL West crown is absolutely open.
