Rapper charged with shooting New York teenager on his way home from a Nets game

A rapper and gang member has been charged with shooting a 13-year-old Brooklyn boy as he walked home from a Brooklyn Nets game nearly six months ago, prosecutors said this week.

Jared “Jah Woo” McCauley, 21, was arraigned on Wednesday on 13 charges related to the Feb. 29 killing of Troy Gill, including murder, criminal damage and reckless endangerment, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said.

Gill was on his way home from a basketball game at the Barclays Center when a drive-by gunman shot him in the chest and torso at about 10:30 p.m. at the corner of Bergen Street and New York Avenue in Crown Heights, police and prosecutors said.

The seriously injured teenager tragically called his mother to tell her he had been shot – before being taken to Kings County Hospital Center, where he died, prosecutors said.

About a half hour later, McCauley and his alleged accomplice, 21-year-old Sheik Koureichi, drove a white Jeep to East New York, where they fired a volley at the front door of a rival gang member allegedly from the Drench street gang, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors believe both incidents were revenge for an alleged act of violence against McCauley earlier in the day.

McCauley – a rapper from the Woo Gang – was allegedly lured to the Bronx, dragged into a car, beaten, stripped and then dragged from the vehicle. The incident was recorded and posted on social media.

Koureichi – who was allegedly in the car when McCauley fired a volley of bullets at Gill – was arraigned on the same charge on July 29.

Both suspects were ordered held without bail, a judge confirmed at a second court hearing on Friday.

“As alleged, these defendants committed a vendetta that cost the life of a young boy,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement.

“This type of senseless retaliatory gang violence takes too many lives, including children, and my office, along with the NYPD, is focused on solving each and every one of these shootings and holding the perpetrators accountable,” Gonzalez added.

“I commend everyone who worked on this complex investigation and hope today's indictment brings some relief to Troy's family.”
