Families of Mechanicsville shooting victims demand justice and accountability

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – The families of the victims shot at a party in Mechanicsville last weekend have had enough of the violence.

“It was a barbecue, people were playing games, it was a family, there were children there,” said lawyer and community organizer Mawuli Davi.

Tabatha Colzie's 29-year-old daughter is fighting for her life at Grady Hospital after being shot in the head. She said her daughter was a career-oriented woman who had big plans for her life.

“They took all of that from my baby, all of that… all of that. She never bothered anybody. She was the sweetest. I will say it over and over again: She is the sweetest person you will ever meet,” Colzie said.

The families of two victims, together with community organizers, are demanding that arrests be made quickly and those responsible be held accountable.

Lenny Black's granddaughter was shot in the back. He thinks it's time for everyone to work together.

“We have to take back the streets, that's what we have to do. We have to start policing our community,” Black said.

Atlanta police said they were concerned about the audacity of the shooting, given that she was present at the party. Atlanta police said in a statement:

“We need to tell the mayor, the city council and the police chief that this issue cannot simply continue as it is,” said community organizer and spokesman Derek Boazman.
