Eight years after unsolved murder, family still looking for answers

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – Angela Cheatham is still struggling with the loss of her son eight years ago and wondering why someone would take her child's life.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department has stated that there is a person of interest in the case, but without the public's willingness to come forward with information, they cannot close the case.

Roger Cheatham was killed on August 16, 2016 at around 10 p.m. in what police say was a robbery.

This tragic incident occurred while Cheatham and another man were being shot and two of Cheatham's young children were in the next room.

Angela Cheatham, Roger's mother, is determined to get justice and will not stop until she gets it.

“It's not going to bring my son back, so I really don't know how I would feel. But I want them to pay for what they did. I forgave them. I had to pray about it. I'll never forget it, but I forgave them. I just want to know why. Because I had a good son. I'm not saying he was perfect, but I had a good son,” Angela Cheatham said.

CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information and Governor Kay Ivey's office is offering an additional $5,000 to anyone with information leading to an arrest in this case.
