US Open 2024: Cameron Norrie and Marketa Vondrousova withdraw due to injury

Britain's Cameron Norrie and 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic announced on Friday that they have withdrawn from the US Open.

Norrie, 47th in the ATP rankings, will miss the final Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year, which begins on August 26 in New York, due to a forearm injury.

Vondrousova, 18th in the WTA rankings, has not played since her first-round defeat in defending her title at Wimbledon and skipped the Paris Olympics due to a hand injury.

Norrie has not played since mid-July in Bastad, where he lost 6-4, 6-4 to Rafael Nadal in the Spaniard's first event since his injury.

Norrie reached the third round of last year's US Open, and his best result in New York came in 2022, when he lost to Andrey Rublev in the fourth round.

By withdrawing, 25-year-old Vondrousova has enabled Petra Martic, ranked 98, to enter the main draw. Like Sorana Cirstea and Zhu Lin, she has withdrawn from the US Open.
