Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in trouble as Governor Gehlot agrees to prosecution against him in MUDA land ‘scam’

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has reportedly approved the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment “scam”.

“The Governor has approved the prosecution against the Chief Minister. It is based on three petitions filed by TJ Abraham, Pradeep and Snehamayi Krishna,” a Raj Bhavan official was quoted as saying by the news agency. PTI.

Following a petition by lawyer and activist TJ Abraham, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot had sent a “summons for hearing” to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on July 26.

The statement called on the Prime Minister to respond to the allegations within seven days and to explain why he should not be prosecuted.

On August 1, the Karnataka government “strongly advised” the governor to withdraw his request for comment to the chief minister, accusing him of “gross abuse of office”.

Earlier, Siddaramaiah had expressed his confidence that the governor would reject the motion for criminal prosecution against him.

“Everything is legal, (the governor) should be convinced. I have no hope, I am confident that he will accept (the government's response) as everything is legal. He (the governor) is the head of the Constitution, if everything is in accordance with the Constitution then why should he not accept it?
