The opposition cried foul and three activists filed a complaint with Gehlot, accusing the chief minister of “abusing” his position.

After Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot gave permission to indict Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA compensatory land allotment scandal, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said BJP-appointed governors were creating problems for non-BJP-ruled states.

He, however, insisted that he must examine why Gehlot had given permission to prosecute the Karnataka Chief Minister.

“I have neither seen it nor do I know the details of the notification. I have also not seen the reasons for the approval. I cannot say now whether the notification is right or wrong,” Kharge told reporters here in Bengaluru.

The Congress president said, “Another thing is that wherever the BJP has appointed governors, be it West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu or wherever (in the states) there is a non-BJP government, it is creating more trouble.” He said he would prefer to react after getting details of the case and consulting with the lawyers.

The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment 'scam' case alleges that Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi was allotted compensatory plots in an upscale area of Mysuru that had a higher real estate value as compared to the location of her MUDA 'acquired' land.

The opposition cried foul and three activists filed a complaint with Gehlot, accusing the chief minister of “abusing” his position.

Siddaramaiah denied the allegations and claimed that his wife deserved fair compensation. He also termed them a conspiracy against him to destabilise the Congress government by ousting him.
