June 30, 2014: Shooting at Scottsdale Circle

The only other mass murder in the past decade that resulted in an arrest occurred in June 2014. Kieara Green, 18, was one of four women injured in a murder at a home on Scottsdale Circle. Green died of her injuries two days later, but the other three victims recovered.

Allen Burgess, 25, was later arrested and charged with murder. More than four years later, he was sentenced to five years in prison after entering an Alford plea – meaning he pleaded not guilty but acknowledged that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him if the trial continued – and he was charged with aiding and abetting murder.

Prosecutors said they agreed to the reduced charge of accessory after the fact because witnesses did not cooperate. Police had previously said Burgess had a long-standing feud with a man who was at the Scottsdale Circle home at the time of the shooting.

Burgess was linked to the shooting after police found bullet casings and a baseball cap in the yard next to the crime scene.
