Sicamous man charged with first-degree murder of Wayne Sirvio

Just over a year after his death, a suspect was arrested and charged in the murder of Sicamous resident Wayne Sirvio.

On August 16, after a year of intensive investigation by the Southeast District Major Crime Unit (MCU), 57-year-old Danny Anthony Sirvio of Sicamous was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his uncle, Wayne Sirvio, last August.

His murder was the first of three in the community last year and the second to result in charges.

“The successful conclusion of this investigation can only be attributed to the effective coordination between multiple RCMP units,” MCU Sergeant Jason Smart said in an Aug. 17 news release. “We hope that the arrest and charging of Danny Sirvio brings a sense of relief to the community of Sicamous and the surrounding area.”

The victim was first reported missing on August 2, 2023, and Sicamous RCMP investigated his whereabouts until new information suggested his disappearance was the result of a crime and the MCU took over the case. On August 5, they executed a search warrant on a local residence where a body was found, confirming it was a homicide investigation at the time.

Sirvio remains in custody and as the case is currently before the courts, the RCMP will not release any further information.
