HUBBARD COUNTY, Minnesota — A 23-year-old inmate in the Hubbard County Jail now faces additional assault charges for stabbing a correctional officer.

According to the Hubbard County Sheriff, the correctional officer was sitting at his desk on August 7 when an inmate left his cell and began attacking him. The inmate was carrying a sharp piece of metal – which was later determined to be a desk bracket – and stabbed the officer multiple times.

The officer suffered stab wounds to the head and face, the sheriff said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

In a statement, the inmate said he had chased the officer before stabbing him and would stab more officers at any opportunity, the sheriff said.

He was in jail for criminal damage and assault on a police officer. The sheriff says he also faces first-, second-, third- and fourth-degree assault charges.
