Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was charged with murder on Saturday over the death of a college student during protests against quota reforms in the country, the latest in a series of charges brought against her following her ouster.
The case was filed against Hasina, former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel and 32 others, including several Awami League leaders, in Chandgaon, the bdnews24.Com portal reported. Another 40 to 50 unidentified people have also been accused in the case, it said.

This is the seventh case filed against Hasina after she was ousted from office amid mass protests. Hasina, 76, fled to India on August 5 after being forced to resign following massive student protests against a quota system in the civil service.
Mohammad Parvez, the uncle of the deceased student Tanvir Siddiqui, filed a complaint at the Chandgaon police station early Saturday morning, the report quoted police chief Jahedul Kabir as saying.

According to the chargesheet, Tanvir, a student at Government Ashekane Awlia Degree College, was participating in the anti-discrimination movement's 'shutdown' programme for students on August 18. During the protest at Bahaddarhat Kitchen Market, unidentified assailants, on the 'instruction and direction' of Hasina and Nowfel, pelted bricks and stones and opened indiscriminate firing at the students.

Tanvir was shot and later died in hospital. The same incident led to the death of two others, including a student of Chattogram University, at the same location, the report said.

In the last four days, five more cases have been filed against her in Dhaka, four of them for murder and one for kidnapping and torture.
On Friday, Hasina and 99 other local politicians and activists of her Awami League party were charged in a case filed at Bogura Sadar police station for the murder of 35-year-old Selim Hossain, a resident of Palikanda village in Shibganj upazila, on August 4.

On August 4, a day before Hasina resigned and left the country, Hossain took part in student protests in the Satmatha area of ​​Bogura. According to the complaint, Awami League (AL) leaders and activists attacked the protesters and hacked Hossain to death with sharp weapons.

Hossain's brother claimed that AL men killed his brother on the orders of Hasina and Quader. Meanwhile, former MP and former water resources minister Ramesh Chandra Sen was arrested and sent to jail on Saturday. He is accused of throwing a crude bomb at students during the July 16 student movement.

Rajib Kumar Roy, judge of the Thakurgaon High Court, gave the order after Ramesh was produced in court on Saturday afternoon. Sen has also served in the Awami League as a presidium member, advisory council member and most recently as a member of the Central Election Committee. He served as the water resources minister from 2009 to 2014.
