Augusta woman shot in nighttime murder

An Augusta woman was found with a fatal gunshot wound on Dan Bowles Road in the Aragon Park community early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Monique Hawes, 53, was found lying in the street with at least one gunshot wound in the 200 block of Dan Bowles Road, about six miles from her home on Madrid Drive.

Bowles was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:45 a.m. Saturday. An autopsy has been scheduled.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office has not released any details about the murder or possible suspects.

Hawes was remembered online by those who loved her.

Lavonya Brown said: “My heart is in pieces, my big sister, the only big sister I ever had. Some coward took her life. Monique Hawes, what should I do? I love you so much, rest in peace sister, please pray for the Hawes and Burns family.”
