Venezuela: Protests at Bayfront Park on August 16th – NBC 6 South Florida

Bayfront Park is bracing for a new wave of protests on Saturday as Venezuelans around the world continue to demand that President Nicolás Maduro announce the results of the presidential election and resign.

Venezuela's National Electoral Council, whose members are loyal to the ruling party, declared Maduro the winner hours after polls closed. But unlike in previous presidential elections, the electoral body has not released detailed election results to back up its claim that Maduro received 6.4 million votes while Edmundo González, representing the opposition Unity Platform coalition, received 5.3 million votes.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets again on Saturday in several cities across Venezuela and around the world to continue to defend what they believe was González's resounding victory on July 28.

“Next Saturday, August 17, Venezuelans around the world will unite to raise their voices for the truth: July 28 #VzlaWon. Find your center's voting protocol at, print it out and bring it to the meeting in your city. With the protocols in hand, show the world that we will not be robbed,” says a press release about the event.

The protests in Bayfront Park were scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

This is the second protest planned at this location. Venezuelans from South Florida already gathered there on August 3. The US had recognized González's victory in the days before.

Organizers are calling on people to protest this Saturday.
