In one such section, he had to interact with Will Poulter, who asked him some simple questions. He was complying with director Chris Storer's request, but he didn't expect what was to come.

He never told me what questions Will would ask me, and he was actually smart enough to know that I get bombarded with those questions quite often. Sometimes in the right context, they're a little, I don't know, annoying.

What Boulud didn't know was that the whole interaction was designed to catch him off guard. He believed the filming hadn't even started yet, to capture his true reaction, while the chef was deliberately kept in the dark.

They didn't tell me when they started rolling either. So he started asking me all these questions about the [edible] Balloon and the hot potato, cold potato…At the very end I just knocked [Chris] on the banquet and I thought, “I have to go” … Did we film it? And they said, “Oh yes, we filmed everything. It was perfect. That's exactly the reaction we wanted.”

Boulud, who is familiar with the camera, was surprised by Poulter's approach, and it made for a genuine surprise that perfectly captured the show's ability to blur the lines between fiction and reality.

Boulud, whose two-Michelin-starred restaurant Daniel is a legend in the culinary world, praised the show's clever tactic of keeping him in the dark about the rolling cameras while the Marvel actor deliberately irritated him with a series of questions.

Storer's dedication to capturing the true essence of the culinary world left the chef feeling uncomfortable and annoyed with what they wanted to see on screen. In the same interview, he shared:

That was very, very clever of them because, of course, some of us chefs are used to speaking to a crowd, but I'm sure you're always a little nervous when you're filming, especially something as intense as this show.

He added:

And when you try to recite the lines, sometimes you forget them. So they really made it annoying in a natural way, which I thought was brilliant.

His experience was surprising for the culinary professional, whose simple reactions led to the addition of rare essences that in turn helped make the show different in the world of scripted television.
