Informants alert us to shooting in East Jackson

JACKSON, Tennessee – The JPD is investigating a shooting at a local apartment complex.

Just before 11 a.m. this morning, we received word from a WBBJ-7 Eyewitness News informant that there had been a shooting in Allenton Heights in Jackson.

When our teams arrived, they saw at least seven police vehicles and a fire truck on the scene. An ambulance was also observed leaving the area.

Several people were seen standing around outside the complex.

Police could be seen cordoning off a large area around the apartment complex and asking passersby to stay away.

While our crews were on scene, two additional ambulances and a SWAT unit as well as another vehicle from the Jackson Fire Department arrived on scene.

Police also closed Edgewood Avenue, Hale Street and parts of Allen Avenue to ongoing traffic.

Police were seen setting up a command post near Allen Avenue and Edgewood Avenue.

We spoke to an officer on the scene who confirmed that there was an active shooter in one of the apartments.

We reached out to Jackson Police and they confirmed that a shooting did indeed occur, but stated that no further information was available at this time.
