Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Beanie Bishop misses game due to injury

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without undrafted rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop for their second preseason game. The team took the field to warm up for their game against the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium, but Bishop stood on the sidelines in civilian clothes.

Bishop is battling a hamstring injury sustained during practice week and will now miss the team's second friendly. The freshman from West Virginia made a lot of noise over the summer and made it into the team's starting lineup, but after his shaky first preseason performance, another opportunity to play against another team would do him good.

With Grayland Arnold placed on the injured list, Bishop is the Steelers' only real option at nickelback. Cory Trice Jr. also works in the slot, but has seen more outside play and as a dimebacker in sub-packages.

Pittsburgh will rely on Thomas Graham at the nickel position, with DeShon Elliott and Damontae Kazee both eligible to play there as well. Cam Sutton could get more playing time after spending most of training camp as the third backup due to his eight-game suspension.

In addition to Bishop, the Steelers will be without center Nate Herbig, who reportedly suffered a serious shoulder injury. Rookie Zach Frazier will take over as the starter and is expected to retain that role going forward.

All other healthy players are expected to play against the Bills. The starters are expected to play four series, led by Russell Wilson at quarterback. Justin Fields and the second line will then take over, followed by Kyle Allen and the third line. From there, if there are reps left, the team could consider John Rhys Plumlee. They will use the second preseason game to get their first full look at their starting lineups, aside from Bishop.
